Murrumba State Secondary College
The challenge
Murrumba State Secondary College opened in 2012 and was initially using a third-party provider to monitor student attendance. Staff found the functionality provided by the attendance monitoring program was limited and were looking for a system that could combine multiple aspects of their school management needs, including community communication.
“The longer we use Compass, we are finding new and innovative ways to enhance our communication between the College, and parents, students and staff. Having Compass enhances our communication which means there is consistency within our community.” Kiah Lanham, Acting Principal
Choosing Compass
Compass appealed to staff at Murrumba because of the ‘all-in-one’ nature of the platform: the portal made it possible to provide every member of the community with the information they might need, including access to absence details, academic records, timetables, personalised resources and contact information. The College also saw Compass as a platform that was constantly evolving, offering an opportunity to use new technology to increase interaction throughout the school community.

Results
Because Compass reaches every facet of a Murrumba’s community, everyone experiences different benefits:
- For teachers, Compass makes covering absences (planned or unplanned) stress-free, with the provision of learning materials through the portal easily accessible by relief teachers
- Admin staff feel Compass makes the tracking and monitoring of attendance, uniform infringements and medical conditions far easier
- Parents enjoy ease-of-access when it comes to accessing key school information, or informing the College about absences
- Students have their day simplified with access to their calendar and up-to-date school information.
