Shenton College
The challenge
Shenton College opened in 2001 with the closure of two high schools. In recent years the student population has grown considerably and with new buildings the school resembles a university campus. The school environment is complex with a large number of staff and a very significant administrative workload. Before using Compass, the College utilised a number of different software programs, each fulfilling a different function rather than offering an integrated system for school management.

Choosing Compass
Associate Principal Chris Hill was part of a delegation from Shenton College that had visited Victoria and talked with staff from similar schools to identify best practice. Compass was highly recommended by a number of the teachers he spoke to, and the Shenton delegation could see the benefits of using one system rather than multiple individual systems. Additionally, Compass offered integration with Integris, comprehensive training and support at no additional cost, and a low total cost of ownership for a proven product with a great reputation.
“Compass has been profoundly transformative in the way we manage and communicate around critical issues and processes like student wellbeing and parent communications, and the ways in which we shape student culture.” Christopher Hill, Associate Principal
Results
Teachers at Shenton benefit from an easy-to-use, accessible system storing teaching resources, lesson plans and assessment items. Admin staff report a massive reduction in administrative work, allowing to be re-deployed to perform more useful and fulfilling functions. Parents and carers have found that Compass offers them instant access to attendance and behavioural information, and the ability to easily notify the school of absences, provide consent for activities, and pay for school fees, camps and events.
