Getting started with Compass: the five steps you need to take to become a Compass school

Implementing a new student management system at your school can seem like a daunting task at first, so we’ve made sure the process is as simple as possible. We’ll be with you every step of the way, and it only takes five of them to get you up and running.

Step 1: Compass demo (onsite or remote)

We’ll start with one of our product experts providing you with a full system demonstration, giving you the chance to see the platform in action. In the course of the demo, we’ll discuss your school community's needs and determine which Compass modules you’ll find the most useful when getting started, creating a package to meet your unique requirements.

Step 2: Acceptance of quotation and terms

We’ll send across a quotation for your Compass subscription. Once accepted, we can move on to implementing Compass in your school.

Step 3: Implementation

A member of our Implementation team will get in touch with your school’s designated Compass Sponsor and take them through our implementation process. Depending on your state or territory, this will also include Department of Education specific requirements, for example 3PI integration in New South Wales.

Step 4: Import data from your SIS

Using Compass Link, our secure data migration functionality, we’ll sync your SIS data with your Compass portal and back again. If you’re transitioning from another school management system provider, we’ll also provide your IT manager with some steps to follow to easily migrate data across from your current set-up.

Step 5: Initial training day (onsite)

Once your data has been imported, your school’s portal will be ready to use - just like that! A member of our Training team will visit your school and take your administration and senior leadership team through the Compass fundamentals, while a shorter after school session for all staff members will cover roll marking and Compass basics.

Once each of these steps have been completed, your school community will be part of the Compass family, joining thousands of other leading schools across the country.

In order for your school community to become familiar with Compass and acclimate to a new system, we recommend a gradual roll out of the portal. You will have full access to your Compass system with the particular modules included in your bundle, however it is best to allow your staff to become familiar with each part of the system step-by-step before utilising all aspects of the system. We will work with you on a roll out plan to suit your school.
