As we continue our commitment to fostering a safe and secure environment for our customers, we want to take this opportunity to emphasise the importance of cybersecurity. Protecting the safety and security of our community remains Compass’ highest priority, and we kindly remind everyone to stay vigilant—especially in light of an increase in highly targeted spear phishing attacks.
What You Need to Know:
Spear phishing attacks are more sophisticated than general phishing attempts. These emails often appear highly convincing, sometimes mimicking executives or trusted external partners, and may reference real-world details to gain your trust.
The ultimate goal is usually to steal personal or company credentials or to trick you into opening malicious attachments or links.
How to Stay Vigilant:
- Verify Email Sender: Always check the sender’s email address carefully. Attackers often use addresses that look nearly identical to legitimate ones (e.g., a minor misspelling or extra letter).
- Think Before You Click: Hover over links before clicking to check the real destination. If it looks suspicious or unexpected, don’t click.
- Question Urgency: Be cautious of messages demanding immediate action, especially those requesting payments, password resets, or confidential information.
- Double Check Sensitive Requests: If an email appears to come from an executive or colleague asking for unusual information or transactions, confirm through a phone call, chat, or another known contact method.
- Inspect Attachments Carefully: Only open attachments if you are certain of the sender’s legitimacy. Malicious files often disguise themselves with familiar extensions like .docx, .pdf, or .xlsx.
- Protect Your Login Details: Never share passwords. Our team will never request your credentials via email or chat.
Cybercriminals continuously evolve their tactics, making ongoing awareness critical. By staying informed and cautious, we can collectively maintain a secure environment. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our Support Team who can escalate directly to our Security Team.
Wishing you a fantastic and safe Term 2!
