As part of our ongoing commitment to data privacy and platform security, Compass has conducted a thorough internal security audit to examine the data that we store. In light of this audit, and in line with many other organisations, we will be removing Medicare numbers from our platform.

This change will be fully implemented across all schools in the coming weeks.

We are taking this proactive measure to protect the privacy and security of our users in the unlikely event of a data breach.

Removing Medicare numbers from Compass adds an additional layer of protection to users, as these numbers contain sensitive information which, if compromised, could be used for identity theft or fraudulent activity.

We have consulted state-based Ambulance services and they have confirmed that a Medicare number is not required to use Ambulance services, so there will be no impact on our sickbay Ambulance reports. Additionally, the Department of Education has outlined that there is no requirement for schools to access this data via Compass and supports the decision to remove this information when transferring data into Compass from other software systems. The Department of Education has also indicated they are likely to remove this from their systems in future for similar security purposes.
