Check-out the webinar recording below to learn more about the benefits of moving to a period-based schedule structure in 2025!
During this webinar, we were also joined by a representative of the Griddle team to discuss the benefits of a dedicated timetabling software. Griddle helps schools easily adapt to daily schedule changes, and provides in-depth reporting and real-time insights, keeping everyone in the loop. Resource management is improved for fairness, and event synchronisation is smooth, helping everything run seamlessly throughout the school year!
The benefits of moving to a period-based schedule structure
Enhanced Visibility
One of the biggest benefits of a period-based structure is how it boosts visibility around students’ whereabouts throughout the day. With this scheduling structure, schools can easily see when a student arrives late or departs early, giving you a clearer picture of attendance patterns at your school.
By tracking attendance period by period, teachers can quickly identify trends in attendance and address any concerns more effectively. This kind of detailed insight is a game changer for both teachers and administrators, helping them to be proactive in supporting student success.
Improved Attendance Records
We understand that accurate attendance tracking is essential for schools. A period-based schedule boosts the precision of data collection compared to the traditional AM/PM structure – and helps manage attendance for Events! Attendance is recorded for each session, providing a fuller picture of student engagement. This detailed approach not only helps identify any attendance concerns but also improves communication with parents about their child’s participation.
Managing Specialist Classes
With a period-based schedule structure, specialist teachers really benefit from having their own dedicated Class Pages in Compass. This setup gives them a central spot to store all their class resources, making it a breeze to manage class materials, ongoing reporting, and communicating with parents and guardians as needed.
With their own Class Pages, specialist teachers can customise their Lesson Plans and resources to suit their needs, making learning even more engaging and effective!
Streamlined Setup for Semester Reports
Another fantastic benefit of a period-based schedule structure is how it simplifies the setup of your Semester Reports. By creating all of your school’s subjects and classes, including specialists, as part of your end-of-year rollover, you’re ticking something off of your reporting to-do list early! Not only does this make managing different subjects at various year levels a whole lot easier, it also streamlines your reporting process so that you don’t have to worry about creating specialist subjects mid-semester. With dedicated subject pages, teachers can also create comprehensive reports that showcase the diverse achievements of all students!
Improved Oversight and Management of Classes
A period-by-period structure also boosts class management and oversight. Administrative teams can manage staff availability with ease, allowing for quick adjustments to session details—whether it’s swapping teachers, bringing in CRTs, or changing class locations.
This flexibility gives teachers a clear view of their schedules and efficiently communicates any changes, creating an organised and engaged learning environment!
What about roll marking?
We’ve got you covered! We have a couple of options available in Compass to help ensure your teachers still only need to mark the roll twice per day, while still meeting DET requirements.
In Year Level Management, you can set up auto roll marking with a specific threshold to allow rolls to be ‘marked forward’, removing the need to mark every period each day. Register for the webinars linked above for more information on how to set this up in your portal!
We also have some exciting updates coming to the ‘Intelligent’ Roll Marking Mode in Compass, ensuring that primary schools can use this feature to record students’ attendance in between marked sessions!
Keep an eye out in your portals for more information, and join the webinars linked above to find out which option is the best fit for your school.
