Compass Countdown Week 2: CSV Upload for Custom Groups & VIC Media Consent Flags!

Welcome to Week 2 of the Compass Countdown! This week, we’re excited to introduce a new CSV upload for Custom Groups and media consent flags for Victorian government schools.

Be sure to join our Facebook Community Group for exclusive previews, additional content, and to connect with other schools in the Compass Community.

CSV Upload for Custom Groups

Setting up Custom Groups is now more efficient with the new bulk upload functionality, allowing you to create a group in one go from a CSV rather than adding users individually.

This works for any group you’d normally set up manually, whether that’s study groups, watchlists, or staff grouped by Compass permissions.

To access this feature, simply navigate to Custom Groups in the People Management module > Click ‘+ Add Group’ > Select the User Type > Click ‘Import Members’ and upload the file.

This functionality is also available via API, making it even easier to manage Custom Groups at scale and integrate with your existing workflows. Learn more about this here!

VIC Media Consent Flags

Easily identify students’ media consent at a glance! Following updates in CASES21, media consent is now captured across three fields – Physical School Environment, School Community, and Media. These fields are now imported into Compass and will apply clear flags against students’ profiles to reflect their media permissions, making it easier for staff to quickly check media permissions before sharing photos, publishing newsletters, or communicating with the wider school community.

Students for whom all three permissions have been denied will have a red camera icon displayed on their profile. Students for whom some permissions have been denied will have an amber camera icon displayed instead. Hovering over the icon will provide more information regarding which permissions have been granted and denied.

BONUS: Learning Task Calendar Layer

In case you missed it, we recently released the new Learning Task Calendar Layer!

Learning Task due dates can now be displayed on staff schedules, ensuring greater visbility of student work. Schools can choose which Task categories appear on schedules and control who can see them – whether that’s all involved staff or just lead teachers. This makes it easier to track deadlines, stay organised and support students more effectively!

To configure the Learning Task calendar layer, please follow these steps:

  1. Go to Administration Tools located under the cog icon
  2. Navigate to Learning Tasks Administration
  3. Under the Settings tab, configure the ‘Include Category in Learning Task Calendar Layer’ and ‘Display Learning Task Calendar Entries on Staff Schedules’ fields
  4. Click ‘Save’

That’s a wrap on Week 2!

Which update are you most excited to try? Share it with us in the Compass Schools Community, and we’ll catch you next week.
