Every term, your feedback helps shape what we build. Compass Countdown gave us a chance to spotlight some of the big updates we released this term, but there’s always more happening behind the scenes. In case you missed them, here’s a look at some of the other improvements we released during Term 2, all built with our school communities in mind.

⭐️ Assign Staff to Events Sessions ⭐️
Running the same Event across multiple sessions, but with different staff members each time? You can now assign different staff members to individual sessions within a single Event, removing the need to manually update staff after each session or create separate Events. Fewer workarounds, more time back!

⭐️ Trigger Chronicle Entries for Unexplained Late Arrivals ⭐️
Trigger Chronicle entries for explained or unexplained late arrivals, or both! We’ve enhanced this existing functionality so that you can now tailor it to suit your school’s specific requirements. For example, if your school automatically enrols students in a detention session when they arrive late without an explanation, you can now ensure that the trigger only applies to unexplained late arrivals, so students who’ve provided a reason aren’t caught up in the same workflow.

⭐️ Combined Points for Chronicle Categories ⭐️
You can now combine points across selected Chronicle categories to display a total points balance. Use a Positive Behaviour or Awards category to award points? Maybe you use an Incident category to subtract points? Combine both to give students an accessible view of their overall points balance. Each of the category points’ balances remains visible individually, but the total brings it all together in one clear figure.
Here’s how to set it up in your Compass portal:
- Navigate to the Chronicle module under the grid icon
- Go to the Administration tab
- Under the Categories tab, click ‘Settings’
- Tick the box to enable ‘Display total points on student point graph’
- Select the categories you would like to include under ‘Categories included in total points on graph’
- Click ‘Update’
⭐️ Chronicle Digest Updates ⭐️
A few helpful improvements have landed for Chronicle Digest! Staff can now append entries and access an expanded actions menu directly from the Chronicle Digest, without needing to navigate elsewhere in Compass. Additionally, set your own Digest notification expiry period via Digest Settings to ensure you’re always seeing the most relevant and up-to-date information.
⭐️ Mark News Feed Items as ‘Read’ ⭐️
Staff can now mark News Feed items as ‘read’, giving them more control over what they see in their feed. Items that have already been read can be removed from the immediate view, making it easier to keep up with what’s new rather than scrolling through posts they’ve already seen.
⭐️ Archive Insights Cycles ⭐️
Refresh and organise your Insights module by archiving cycles! As your list of Insights cycles grows over time, keep them neat and tidy by archiving old cycles, ensuring the most recent cycles are easy to access without worrying about losing historical data.
⭐️ Multiple Purchase Order Approval Authorisations ⭐️
You can now set amount-based approval rules for purchase orders so that POs over the allocated value threshold automatically require approval from one or more of the designated staff members. Customise rules as needed, with primary, secondary and admin-level approvers configurable per division, giving you greater control over financial workflows.
To enable this setting, please follow these steps:
- Go to Financial Management, located under the grid icon
- Click ‘Configure Settings’
- Tick the box to enable ‘Allow Authorisations to approve Purchase Orders’
- Click ‘Update’
⭐️ Add Staff to Conferences by Year Level ⭐️
Streamline the setup of your parent-teacher conferences in Compass! You can now quickly add staff by subject year level, saving significant setup time and reducing the chance of someone being left off the list. For schools running conferences across multiple year groups, this one’s worth exploring.
⭐️ Kiosk Pin Codes ⭐️
Users with an active Compass ID card can now log into Compass Kiosks using a PIN code! This makes signing in simple and time-efficient, and adds an extra layer of security to your Kiosk setup.
To enable this in your Compass portal, please follow these steps:
- Go to Administration Tools located under the cog icon
- Navigate to Client Manager
- Click the edit pencil next to the registered Kiosk
- In the Student Page: Sign-in Methods field, select ‘PinCode’
- Click ‘Save & Close’
Users can configure their PIN code by following these steps:
- Click the cog icon in the top right-hand corner
- Go to CompassIdentity Card
- Enter a PIN code in the Kiosk PIN section
- Click ‘Set PIN’
⭐️ VIC: Modified Timetable Agreement Chronicle Templates ⭐️
We’ve created two Chronicle templates for Victorian government schools to help record and manage modified timetable arrangements. These templates allow the entered data to be recorded and reused in letters and other communications, using placeholders.
The ‘Modified Timetable Agreement‘ template helps to establish and manage a student’s modified timetable, including fields to outline reasons, success measures, work to be provided, a detailed schedule, and an agreement section for parents or carers and the school principal.
We’ve also added a ‘Modified Timetable Agreement – Extension‘ template so that you can easily record the extension of a modified timetable arrangement, signed off by the principal and the student’s parent or carer.
