Mathematics
The revised Mathematics Curriculum includes changes to the Achievement Standards used by teachers to assess and report student learning across Levels Foundation to 10.
While Version 1.0 had 3 separate Achievement Standards, Version 2.0 has a single Achievement Standard (VCM2MA) which encompasses six strands or areas; Number, Algebra, Measurement, Space, Statistics, and Probability. As of 2026, Mathematics 1.0 achievement standards are no longer available for use with reporting in Compass. Please note that this will not impact historical reporting data where the 1.0 achievement standards were used.
In alignment with DET requirements, we have added the single consolidated Mathematics 2.0 Achievement Standard (VCM2MA) to the existing Victorian Curriculum Achievement Standards Report Element.
English
In accordance with DET specifications, the transition to English Version 2.0 will not impact reporting. As a result, the English achievement standards in Compass will not change, remaining as follows: Reading and Viewing (VCERV), Speaking and Listening (VCESL) and Writing (VCEW).
This also means that you will still be able to show student progression against the English achievement standards from previous years.

FAQs
Can we report against the 6 strands of Mathematics in Compass?
While reporting against the 6 strands of Mathematics is not a requirement of the DET, this additional information may also be included in reports, as long as an overarching teacher judgement against Mathematics Version 2.0 is also provided. Only the single strand (VCM2MA) is required when reporting back to CASES21.
If your school wishes to include the previous 6 strands or grades on students’ reports, you can do this using a separate Report Element that meets your school’s formatting requirements and grading criteria.
The screenshots below show the single, mandatory grade for Mathematics under the ‘Victorian Curriculum’ heading or Report Element, with the optional 6 strands marked under a separate Report Element (i.e. Learning Outcomes, Progression Scale – PPC).

Can we use both Mathematics Versions 1.0 and 2.0?
As of 2026, reporting against Mathematics 2.0 is now mandatory for all levels (A-11.0). In accordance with this, version 1.0 achievement standards are no longer available for use in Compass.
Will we still be able to see previous results for Mathematics?
Mathematics Version 2.0 is not considered to be continuous with the previous Mathematics Version 1.0 curriculum. As such, there will be no progression or previous results when you first move from Mathematics 1.0 to Mathematics 2.0.
All reports after your first time using the Mathematics 2.0 curriculum will display students’ progression or previous results as normal.

What about Learning Tasks?
We have also added a new Victorian Curriculum (VCM2MA: Mathematics) Grading Component to Learning Tasks with the same functionality as existing Victorian Curriculum Grading Components.

Will the new grading option ‘Progressing Towards (PT)’ be available in Compass?
From 2025, the DET has introduced a new grading option called “Progressing Towards” or “PT”. In alignment with these specifications, we have added this grading option to the existing Victorian Curriculum Achievement Standards Report Element.
Please note that the “Progressing Toward (PT)” grading option will work similarly to the existing “Not Taught (NT)” or “Did Not Participate (DNP)” options, where students do not get a rating, and this cannot be imported as a ‘previous result’.
