How Christ the King College Reduced Complexity and Saved Time with Compass
Christ the King College is an 11–18 voluntary aided secondary school on the Isle of Wight, jointly founded on Roman Catholic and Church of England traditions. With a strong focus on creating an environment where staff and students can thrive, the school recognised that its technology needed to work harder, and smarter, to support day-to-day operations.
Seeking a modern, cloud-based MIS that could reduce complexity, improve efficiency, and grow alongside the school, Christ the King College partnered with Compass to replace their legacy system and consolidate multiple platforms into one integrated solution.
In her own words, Kathrin Williams, Business Manager at Christ the King College, reflects on the school’s journey and the impact of moving to Compass.
Christ the King College: Our Compass Story
The Challenge We Faced
As Business Manager at Christ the King College, I oversee the operational infrastructure that supports our educational mission. Like many schools, we reached a point where our existing MIS was no longer fit for purpose.
We were relying heavily on a range of third-party systems to carry out everyday tasks that our MIS simply couldn’t handle. This made our processes disjointed, inefficient, and costly. Staff and parents were also having to navigate multiple platforms, which added unnecessary complexity to the school day.
We needed a system that could act as a true “one-stop shop” for student data management and school operations – something that could adapt and genuinely support how we work.
Finding the Right Solution
What initially attracted us to Compass was its ability to integrate those third-party functions directly into the MIS.
Just as importantly, Compass offered a collaborative approach – working with us to tailor the system to our specific needs rather than us having to fit around the software.
Compass allowed us to replace our current MIS entirely and consolidate several other tools into one platform, significantly reducing our overall software overhead.
The onboarding process was refreshingly thorough; we had a long pre-launch period of around 12 months, which gave us the time we needed to fine-tune the system and carefully transition our data.
We officially went live with Compass in September 2024 and have been using it as our sole MIS ever since.
The Difference It’s Making
The impact has been immediate and tangible. We are very happy with both the system and the service – the Compass team is consistently helpful and genuinely invested in our success.
By integrating functions natively within Compass, we’ve significantly reduced our reliance on third-party vendors, saving the school thousands of pounds. Operationally, we’re now running key school functions far more efficiently, including school events and cashless catering.
What really stands out is how responsive the Compass team is to feedback and change requests. It makes us feel like a valued customer rather than just another number.
“Since replacing our MIS with Compass in September 2024, we’ve been able to significantly reduce our third-party systems. The team is incredibly responsive to our feedback, making us feel like a truly valued customer rather than just another number.”
Looking Ahead
For schools considering a change of MIS, my advice would be to look for a partner who values collaboration and feedback – and to allow plenty of time for preparation and onboarding.
Our relationship with the Compass team has been incredibly positive. The system continues to grow with us as new ideas and suggestions are listened to and acted upon. If you’re looking for a cloud-based MIS that brings together many, if not all, of a school’s day-to-day operations into a single platform, Compass is an easy recommendation.
